Today we interview JJ Currie  who in my opinion, is the pre-eminent social media specialist Johannesburg .



JJ, can you give us a little background to your expertise. How did you get into this business?

Well I started out in digital marketing 13 years ago. It all started through building and then promoting a couple of e-commerce websites then spending almost every hour of every day testing and tweaking strategies that helped drive traffic into our websites. Then as the search engines evolved and social media became such an important factor I made it my lives mission to learn everything I can about how to apply social media to help grow my business. I then went on to run a successful digital marketing agency for many years which helped local businesses grow via the internet.

JJ, tell us, what makes you stand out as such a great social media specialist?

Thats a great question and something I have had to encounter often when dealing with clients who have been burned before. You see social media represents an incredible opportunity for business owners to grow their business and connect with their target market. Making real lasting connections on a personal level but if you do not know what you are doing you could end up doing more harm than good for your business. 

You see social media marketing gives you leverage on all of your marketing efforts. whether it be online, offline or just reputation management if you are paying attention to the market and giving your customers what they want social media can massively increase your reach and effectiveness of your marketing efforts. BUT on the flip side if you are not paying attention social media can also amplify the things you are doing wrong. So there is a fine line between massive success and failure.  

Social media is in a state of constant evolution and you need to make sure that you are always on the look out for new strategies and tactics which will help you achieve your goals. This is my passion and I like to think I am on the cutting edge of technology and through years of experience testing what works and what doesn't work have found the happy medium.  

As this is a competitive market, what do you do to make your services so appealing to your clients?

Ok I like to educate my clients and then through that they can see the benefits of dealing with me as a social media specialist. This is a results based business and never before has there been a platform like social media where you can deliver almost instant results with incredible ROI and everything can be tracked. So I simply make them aware of the need to be marketing their business through social media then let the results speak for themselves.

Tell us about one of your specialties.

One of my specialities is social media marketing. I have extensive experience and expertise in helping businesses reach and connect with their target market. Social media really is an incredible platform which allows big brands and small to medium sized companies really establish a relationship with their customers on a personal level. There are simply tons of strategies companies can utilise in order to achieve their goals. Another really cool thing bout social media is the fact that you can achieve real results really quickly which is always a great thing.

Please give us a few tips local viewers would appreciate about social media?

In order to be successful in your social marketing efforts firstly you need consistency and you need to inject personality into your brand. Remember people do business with people so no matter how big or small your business is you still need to connect with your target market. This is where social works wonders allowing you to establish a real personality for your brand. This will go a long way to helping you grow your business via social media.

What’s the biggest thing you have learned about building a successful social media campaigns over the last few years?

The biggest thing I have learnt over the years is to listen. Listen to your market place what hey want, what are their objectives, their needs etc… then provide them with the solution to their problems. Another really important factor is testing. Always be testing what is working and what is not working.
